The Waves Return
Mar-Sep 2024

Nostalgic narratives that traverse various eras and places are at the heart of Zhenghan Huang’s work. She reconstructs personal memories for the camera, capturing subtle, peaceful, and occasionally melancholic moments of life. In The Waves Return, she considers her childhood holidays to the seaside in her hometown in China and her more recent experiences of British beaches.

Early photographs and videos, taken by her parents, act as vessels for her memories, in Huang’s words, ‘My mind generates new images from the past. To further explore this dynamic, I returned to the coastal area of my upbringing this past summer.’
